COMPANY PROFILE
The National Research Institute of Electronics and Cryptology (UEKAE), an affiliate of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, produces and applies scientific and technological solutions with its qualified human resources and internationally accepted infrastructure in the areas of information security, communications and advanced electronics. UEKAE works on joint projects together with private sector companies and government authorities by utilizing the TEMPEST, Acoustics, Common Criteria and Cryptographic Algorithm Design and Test Centers and Product Development, Electronic Warfare, Microelectronics and Optoelectronics departments.
The employees of UEKAE, 76% of which consists of researchers, have all adopted the common ideal of “Becoming an international technology and production center that pioneers the development of new technologies in communications and advanced electronics areas”. UEKAE contributes to universal science by incorporating the universities into the ongoing projects and encouraging its researchers for academic career development opportunities. UEKAE has the richest library in the areas of cryptology and information security in the country as well.
The researchers and the management both believe in modern management systems. As a results of this, the institute has been awarded the ISO 9001-2000, AQAP-2110, AQAP-2130, AQAP-160, and its EMI/EMC and the Common Criteria Test Centers and the Public Certification Authority have been accredited by the Turkish Accreditation Agency with BS 7799/2002, TS/EN ISO/IEC 17025:2000 and ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certifications respectively.
UEKAE provides feasible solutions to achieve its customers’ communication and security goals like Off-line and on-line crypto equipment, secure voice, fax, data communication equipment, electronic key management and distribution system, multimedia communication over HF/UHF/VHF system.
Network Security and Common Criteria Test Laboratory
UEKAE’s Network Security and Common Criteria Test Laboratory (NCCTL) conducts security evaluations of IT products and protection profiles using test methods derived from the Common Criteria and the Common Evaluation Methodology.
Cryptographic Test and Design Laboratory
The Cryptographic Test and Design Laboratory designs and evaluates cryptographic algorithms and protocols. This laboratory acts as the technical partner of Turkish General Staff, which is the Turkish authority on cryptography and IT security matters.
In the Semiconductor Technologies Research Laboratory (YITAL), performs its activities in the field of microelectronics technologies. A totally proprietary process has been developed and a silicon integrated circuit production line has been established in YITAL. Today, design and production of all kinds of application specific CMOS IC’s with 0.35 µm critical dimension and double poly-silicon/double metal layers are possible within the Semiconductor Technologies Research Laboratory with limited quantities.
The software development department designs both application specific and general purpose software and firmware. Smart Card Operating System (AKIS), proprietary electronic signature (PKI) software, and IP Crypto Equipment Management Systems, are some of them.
The RW-TÜV certified acoustics test laboratory works on its intelligibility, quality and communicability tests of speech communication systems, as well as intelligent speech recognition.
EMC/TEMPEST Test Center
EMC/TEMPEST Test Center was established in October 1995. Its main task is to perform EMC and TEMPEST tests of military and civilian equipment and systems. In addition to EMC and TEMPEST measurement services according to military and civil standards; this test center also provides training, consultancy and R&D services in EMC and TEMPEST areas.
With the circular of the Prime ministry published in September 2004, UEKAE has been commissioned to establish and operate the Public Certification Office with the aim of gathering all the public organizations under a single certification umbrella.
Open Source Software
National Operating System (PARDUS) is being developed under the National Distribution Project in the UEKAE. It targets the basic desktop needs of the computer users. PARDUS is a GNU/Linux distribution.
MARSsys is the unique solution to spectrum management and analysis, satisfying both military and civil operational requirements through the integration of a wide range of spectrum management capabilities at national and international levels. MARSsys consists of three main components: Frequency Information Management System (FIMS), Spectrum Management Analysis Software (SMAS) and WEB Messaging Interface.
Optoelectronics Laboratory
The optoelectronics technologies have a vast amount of application areas. UEKAE designs and develops optoelectronic systems for criminology, petrol, textile and glass production industries. Forensic equipment for the detection of document fraud are technologically the most advanced ones on the market. The equipment for the measurement of marker concentration in petroleum based fuels helped Turkey to minimize petrol smuggling dramatically. In the area of textile and glass industries, quality control equipment which detects defects in the color, size and texture of fabric and micro defects in produced glass by means of optoelectronic methods help textile and glass manufacturers increase their productivity.
NATO Approved Equipment
UEKAE is an active contributor to NATO activities in the fields of information security and identification systems. The institute has many cryptographic products which have been approved by the NATO Military Committee for use within NATO and NATO member countries for communications with all security classification levels. |
